About APPS

The Association for Public Policy Ph.D. Students (APPS) is a student run initiative established in 2013 with the purpose of providing professional and intellectual support for doctoral students at George Mason University’s School of Policy, Government, and International Affairs.

SPGIA-APPS emphasizes excellence in academic research through the promotion of its annual flagship event the Advancements in Policy and  Politics Conference (APPC) as well as the PhD student working paper series. The association also hosts other events such as the Ph.D. Workshop Series and monthly professional networking opportunities to enhance the research footprint of our PhD students.

Mission: To provide a support structure for the professional and intellectual development of the George Mason University School of Policy, Government, and International Affairs doctoral students. SPGIA – APPS emphasizes student cooperation in the pursuit of academic research; organizes social events and extracurricular activities to prepare students for professional lives; facilitates student participation at academic conferences; enables a uniting platform for all student-run initiatives and publications; and furthers the name of the George Mason University’s School of Policy, Government, and International Affairs.
