The Schar PhD Student Association (SPSA) is a student-run organization for all Ph.D. students in the Schar School. It provides a platform for professional and intellectual support, student-led initiatives, and opportunities for greater student interaction and collaboration. Join APPS as we participate in GMU’s 9/11 Day of Service. This year we will be volunteering with Habitat NOVA at their Alexandria ReStore. Shifts are 3-4 hours, and we start at 10am. Volunteers assist our ReStore staff collecting and receiving donated materials, pricing and stocking items on the store floor, cleaning and organizing, as well as with displays, sales, customer service, and donor appreciation.
What is the minimum age to volunteer? Volunteers for the ReStore must be at least 12 years old. Volunteers ages 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult and have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Volunteers ages 16 and 17 years old must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian but may volunteer on their own. Parents will need to sign a waiver for their child.
What should I wear? Please wear comfortable, durable clothing: jeans or work pants, short or long sleeve shirts and closed toed shoes.
What should I bring? Just yourself and a water bottle (or other drink of choice) if you’d like!
